The VRB Series comprises heat-shrink fiber optic splice protectors for multi-fiber Ribbon cables. VRB4, VRB8 and VRB12 protect ribbons containing up to 4, 8 or 12 fibers with a 250 μm coating. Two D-shaped ceramic reinforcing elements stabilize the splice from both sides, while lengths from 25 to 45 mm support matching to splice trays and fiber optic cassettes.

VRB RIBBON protectors were developed to protect multi-fiber ribbon splices in a single sleeve. VRB4 supports up to 4 fibers, VRB8 up to 8 and VRB12 up to 12 fibers. The construction protects the joint against mechanical damage, contamination and climatic conditions without introducing additional optical power loss.
Each protector consists of a thin-wall PEX outer tube, a hot-melt EVA inner layer and two D-shaped ceramic reinforcing elements. The ceramic has a thermal expansion coefficient close to optical fiber, reducing longitudinal stress during heating. The molten inner layer fills the space around the ribbon and reinforcing elements, limiting the formation of air bubbles.
* – Tolerances in accordance with EN 50411-3-3 requirements
VRB protects fusion splices in 250 μm coated Ribbon fibers. VRB4, VRB8 and VRB12 support ribbons containing up to 4, 8 and 12 fibers respectively.
They differ in supported fiber count, recovered dimensions and hole width. VRB4 is 3.9 × 4.2 mm, VRB8 is 4.6 × 5.0 mm and VRB12 is 5.0 × 5.6 mm.
The Series uses two D-shaped ceramic reinforcing elements. VRB4 uses 3 × 1.5 mm elements, while VRB8 and VRB12 use 4 × 2 mm elements.
The table covers 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 mm lengths. Other lengths can be agreed for custom orders.
The installation temperature is 200 °C and the installation time is 40 seconds. Select the heater program for the protector and follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
First determine the number of fibers in the ribbon, then check the opening and splice-tray holder dimensions. VRB4 supports up to 4 fibers, VRB8 up to 8 and VRB12 up to 12.
